My husband & I drove through Anna, Il on the 44th anniversary of the day we fell in love. Paused our road trip to celebrate. Bought books in a thrift store, & asked if proprietor could recommend a local restaurant. "Try the Grill, it's next door." What. A. Find. We walked into a high-ceilinged, upscale cafe with 1 red brick wall, 3 regular walls that were painted an excellently matched gray with brick red trim. Real books on shelf. What looked like original art hung on the walls, vaguely bohemian. But you want to know about the food. That's the real ticket! Grilled shrimp appetizer - spiced zestily, with 3 sauces on plate to dip. Roasted pepper soup - amazing, with a bite! Tomatoes, basil, artichoke hearts & garlic sauteed in olive oil & tossed with linguini, topped with the tenderest grilled chicken breast I have been served outside of my own kitchen. Home-made peach cobbler. We speculated - was a famous chef hiding out? Turns out it's a family affair. Two sisters. Go there. Now!

Considering the area, a fabulous restaurant contextually. Offers many menu items that are otherwise absent in Anna. Real mom and pop feel, so service can be slow, but that is part of the appeal and the flavors are worth the wait. Their artichoke appetizer with panko bread crumbs served with clarified butter is mighty tasty. I also appreciate the local wine list, although I wish they carried a better variety of drier wines like some of Rustle Hills, Inheritance, Alto Pass, or Bluesky dry reds and whites. I think the 1 star vote above needs a lesson in patience when visiting a mom and pop run restaurant.
It was my pleasure to discover the Brick House Grill while in Anna this past December. I found the service to be somewhat slow, but that is part of the charm of this restaurant. If you are in a hurry, there are fast food restaurants in town. The food was very good for a small restaurant not run by true professionals. One evening I had the linguine Bolognese and it was excellent. I am Italian by heritage and it was as good as I have had. Another evening I had Chicken Marsala and it was equally good. The wine list is lacking, with an abundance of local Illinois wines. They are not bad and certainly priced right. I would prefer at least one California Chardonnay. The deserts are to die for. I understand they are all made in house by the owners' mother. I will be back same time next year and I can't wait for another slice of their Buttermilk pie.

I had one of the absolute worst experiences of my restaurant-going life here. the service was lacking in every possible way. my server had no professionalism whatsoever, knew very little about the menu, and either forgot or disregarded significant details of our orders. it took nearly an hour after ordering to get the entrees, mine being a simple pasta bolognese. the sauce tasted like nothing more than ketchup and ground beef. the bill needed to be corrected due to charging for phantom items that were never ordered, and still ended up being extremely overpriced. don't bother setting foot in this poorly operated amateur establishment. it is a sad excuse for a restaurant and should be condemned immediately.

Enjoyed the meal...very good! Service was a little slow, but it just opened, so expect that will improve. Very glad to have this wonderful new restaurant in Anna!
