The Washtenaw County Sheriff provides law enforcement and crime prevention services. The department intervenes in cases of burglary, murder, auto theft, serious assault, domestic violence and narcotics trafficking. It operates a records division that processes and manages criminal records, clearance reports, and search and arrest warrants. It responds to emergency and nonemergency calls for service. The Washtenaw County Sheriff conducts investigations, gathers evidence, arrests offenders, and interviews suspects, victims and witnesses. The department also operates a detention facility. It offers neighborhood watch and marine safety programs. In addition, the department organizes safety-related training sessions for the general public. The Washtenaw County Sheriff is headquartered in Ann Arbor, Mich.
