Based in Anacortes, Wash., Samish Indian Nation is a social organization that uses its tribal members to preserve and strengthen the tribal culture. It also deals in securing quality of life, prosperity, health and education for the community. The organization operates a number of departments for different specializations, such as Samish Health Department, Samish Indian Nation Housing Department, Vocational Rehabilitation Department, Education Department and Department of Natural Resources. It also provides specific services through Samish Longhouse Head Start and Community Childcare, as well as Samish Elders and Caregiver Program. Samish Indian Nation s five county social service delivery area includes Island, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish and Whatcom counties. The Archives and Cultural Resources Department (ACRD) holds the organization s archival records and archaeological collections.
