Just a wonderful, wonderful place. The staff is extraordinarily genuine, skilled, available and just plain sweet. I felt I made personal friends with them while my mother was living at Applewood. The apartments and grounds are lovely, the food is fine and plentiful, and the residents are some of the most interesting people I've met anywhere. The downside, and the reason my mother left to go back into her own apartment in Philadelphia, is that Applewood's assisted living and medical affiliations are off-premises. So when a resident requires a higher level of care, they leave... Leaving residents such as my mother the impression that "when people get sick they're "whisked off to who-knows-where, without being asked where they want to go, and they're never to return." While this may not seem rational to younger people with full control of their lives, it can be an elderly person's worst nightmare. So keep it in mind while assessing Applewood's overall wonderfulness.
