General Info
The American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics ( ASCPT ) was founded in 1900, and consists of over 2, 100 professionals committed to promoting and advancing the science of human pharmacology and therapeutics for the benefit of patients and society. The Society is the largest scientific and professional organization serving the Discipline of Clinical Pharmacology. Most of the members are physicians or other doctoral scientists but ASCPT also has members who are students, fellows in training, research coordinators and other professionals. ASCPT focuses on improving the understanding and use of existing drug therapies and developing more effective and safer treatments for the future. Our memberships' unique combination of scientific and clinical expertise makes them especially qualified to understand the impact of disease on patients, the compelling need for effective drug therapy and the efforts necessary to meet those needs. Such efforts include research, exchange of scientific information, and awareness of legislative requirements that affect drug development and regulation. The Society's annual meeting is held in March and offers cutting-edge educational and scientific content. This three day event provides the opportunity for members and non-members to network, share knowledge, and discuss the fundamental issues that face the discipline of clinical pharmacology. More than 1, 000 scientists, pharmacists, physicians, and professionals from government, academia, and industry attend the meeting each year. Presentations include state-of-the-art lectures, featured speaker sessions, and scientific symposia that cover a broad range of topics, from drug development and dosage to safety and effectiveness, pharmacogenetics and metabolism to biotherapeutics and regulation.
