General Info
Mac’s Steak in the Rough has been an institution in New Mexico for over 70 years. Founded by Dave McCarty in 1949 in Artesia, NM, McCarty opened Albuquerque’s first Mac’s Steak in the Rough in 1960 and the restaurant has been a New Mexican favorite ever since. The local chain was acquired by Fresquez in the early 1990’s. Featuring freshly cut and breaded juicy steak fingers, crispy fries, and our Signature Taquitas – voted the Best Taquitas in Albuquerque by Alibi magazine year after year.

been going to Mac's on Lomas since the 60's & stopped about 10 years ago when food taste & quality declined. I was really excited that they had a remodel & hoped for a fresh start with new fryers, new staff.Gave them 2 chances this week- 1st their steak in the rough-steak was too pepperly and chewy. Slaw - threw it away. Green onion was half wilted..Decided to try their tacos & taquitos today, as they were my favorites back in the 60's, 70's. Waited in line for 15 minutes. Then waited for another 20 for my order, all the customers were complaining & unhappy. But that's not all.We ordered 4 Taquita 2-somes & 4 tacos for carry out - we got 2 taquita 2-somes, fries, hamberger and grilled cheese. The taquita were way over done burned on the ends and chewy in the middle. The quacamole that comes with was starting to turn brown & tastless with one big chunk of lettuce on one & two little whisps of lettuce on the other. threw most of it away after paying $18. I wish the local oweners luck.
