In order for these blocks to grow strong enough to support a child's physical and mental growth, it is imperative that the most critical developmental years be a time of fun, warmth, security, exploration and discovery. Our Mission At NSS we’re passionate about making children shine, which is why we provide a well-designed learning environment, jam-packed with a rich variety of materials they can use to examine, manipulate, discover, problem solve, and think independently, as a team or even -- outside the box. Community Outreach At Nessa's Small Steps we provide a wonderful opportunity for children to experience a sense of community. Outreach programs such as, The Domestic Violence Service Center's anti-bullying and cyber-bullying programs, presentations by the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Baseball Team, and special guest reader appearances at the center help keep our students in touch with the things that make our communities great. Our center also offers field trips and outings that are based on a Project Approach Curriculum, familiarizing our students with the community around them. We also provide healthy meals in accordance with the Child & Adult Food Care Program (CACFP) -- a Federally based program that ensures 3.3 million children and 120,000 adults across the country receive nutritious meals each and every day. These meals include breakfast, lunch, and a healthy afternoon snack. A morning snack is provided by our "Star of the Day" student. Educated Staff The diverse educational backgrounds of our highly-qualified staff creates a firm base for the continued hours of trainings and workshops required to fulfill employment obligations at NSS. We believe that in order to provide the best quality for our students, high standards must be practiced, which is why we continuously strive to maintain Keystone STARS standards.
