The Office of the State Comptroller, administered by the state government of New York, audits government operations and manages statewide retirement systems. Established in 1797, the office conducts the management and financial audits of state agencies and public benefit corporations. It oversees the fiscal affairs of local governments and issues monthly cash financial statements. In addition, the Office of the State Comptroller monitors, reports and coaches other public entities. The office also reviews state contracts, payrolls and payments before they are issued. It releases monthly reports that disclose investments and transactions. The Office of the State Comptroller is responsible for the performance, oversight and management of the retirement funds. The office operates a pension investment and cash management division.
