The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is operated by New York State. The department manages a food laboratory division that tests dairy products and beverages. It operates the Division of Food Safety & Inspection, which manages jurisdiction over more than 28,000 food handling establishments. The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets also manages the Division of Plant Industry, which is responsible for promoting integrated pest management practices. The department operates an animal industry division that detects, controls and eradicates communicable diseases in food and fiber producing animals. It conducts and supervises the licensing of certified industry milk inspectors.
