My family and I were very disappointed in our dinner last nite May 21 which was my wife's birthday.

When I got to the restaurant I was sort of wondering why at 630 pm it was really empty. There was probably 15 people eating, normally there is a waiting line just to get in. Then I noticed at the desk that there was only 4 reservation for the nite, one was my family of 4. The food wasn't too good. The sushi plates was not filled, the steak was dried out probably out since 5 or 530 pm when the restaurant opened. There were no utensils to grab each type of food, you had to use a grabber to grab 2 to 3 items. There were lots of gnats all over and you had to wave your hand to get them off some of the food items.I can go on and on....I just want to end this by saying I was disappointed especially on a great occassion in being my wife birthday dinner. I will never go back again and begun to tell everyone I know it is a really bad restaurant. I should call the board of health also..

Best of...

One of the best all you can eat places around. The food is excellent and are items that you'd order individually at a normal good restaurant. When I hear that people haven't been to Makino Chaya I'm sad for them...

One of the better all you can eat places in Hawaii

I like the King crab legs and King crab sushi. Other sushi was average for such place. Clean and well stocked all you can eat place. Beef dish was terrible - marinated but killed the taste.
