General Info
The Tavern restaurant in downtown Abingdon is a step back in time. Our beautiful old building was built in 1779 and is the oldest of Abingdon's historic structures. In its original inception, it was an overnight inn for stagecoach travelers, housing famous guests such as Henry Clay, King Louis Philippe of France, and President Andrew Jackson. In all its years, the Tavern has served as a post office, bank, general store, Civil War hospital, private home, bakery, and, of course, a tavern. Today, German native and U.S. Air Force veteran Max Hermann welcomes you to enjoy our delicious fare in a friendly setting. The Tavern is a favorite spot for corporate entertainment and business meetings. You may host up to 80 guests in our private dining rooms by the fireplace or in our courtyard or balcony areas. Our menu is a fine assortment of traditional and delectable dishes. Start with onion soup or Oysters Rockefeller and be sure to try an Irish coffee or German brandy with dessert. Perhaps you'd like to sample our crab cakes, ahi tuna, or signature stuffed filet mignon. We've got something for everyone. We offer: Full service bar Appetizers, soups, and salads Chicken dishes and seafood Rack of lamb Prime rib Wiener schnitzel and other authentic German dishes Pasta Homemade dessertsEntrees include a salad and starch of the day or vegetable medley.
