Good afternoon, Im writing in response to our group doing a large donation to the Aberdeen Salvation Army . A lady and myself stopped by the office before Thanksgiving to get a list of what a family is in need for a Christmas dinner and along with that we also took 10 Childrens name card to get them gifts as well. I was so excited to help these families in need. It was a wonderful feeling going shopping , knowing we are going to make a difference . We spent almost three hours taking our time looking for all the gifts/items listed on the kids cards. We even went out of our way and got them each a few extra items. I had a truck load to drop off on Dec 7th. Unfortunately I wasnt able to meet with head lady on Saturday at the Salvation Army as we had earlier discussed. I called her on Friday the 6th and left her a voicemail to please return my calls about meeting earlier, Never got a call back from her. Saturday I called 4 times to the main office and got no answer as well. I had left the manager at the Salvation Army my cell number to contact me if she had failed to hear from me too. I never received a call from her on that Saturday either. Monday came and I loaded up my truck and went to work . On my lunch break , I took my chance at stopping by the Salvation Army to drop off the items and food we had purchased. I walked in the doors and asked the lady working if we could drop our items off here that we bought. She got snotty with me and stated well the manager is in with a client and she is the only one that can help you with that. I said well , I understand but Im on a lunch break , Do you know how long she may be. I know she said we could use the side door to drop items off when we previously had spoken. She then began to state. That manager you want to talk to was here on Saturday and waited for you. If you needed to change times you shouldve called her. I was shocked at the rude treatment we got. I then pulled up a chair and sat in the hallway for over 30 minutes waiting to speak with the manager to drop items off. To my surprise she came out of her office, looked at us and went on her way to help someone else. 15 minutes later she came back and pointed at the doors in front of where we had sat for almost an hour. She states, you can drop your items off in there on the tables. Walked away and went back in her office. I was so upset with the lack of respect we got. Here I thought we are doing something good for our community and for families in need. Never once did we get told thank you for all 5 bags of gifts and food we dropped off. No , may we get an address or a name so we can send a thank you card for all you have done. Just a slammed door in our faces was all we got. Very unsatisfied community member of Aberdeen South Dakota. A Simple Thank You goes a long way!
